But being totally sad is not what two multitalented men behind the group, Andrie Ridwan and Andrew Hutasoit want to bring. Instead they want to use it as the media of expression and an entity using melodic sounds and meaningful lyrics. That’s what they show in their debut album, “Home”.
Having all English lyrics except one song “Jelang Malam” which is currently doing well in indie charts, plus one strong single “Maybe Someday” in the album gives a promising start for Tristan. Being mellow doesn’t always have to mean sad, Tristan shows that they can use it to bring something poetically (both musical and lyrical) inspiring. Four persons inside this group: Nikita Dompas (guitar), Azfansadra ‘Adra’ Karim (keyboards), Indra Perkasa (contrabass) and Elfa Zulham (drums) know how to cook their music interestingly different. They deliver hot spices of funk with the guts in experimenting here and there plus the cool vintage sound over the rhodes but still applicable to today’s or even tomorrow’s music. In this album they continued to express their love and passion for the bossa nova and samba, but here the word ‘originality’ appeared much stronger than before. They took a remarkable move to go on futher by making their own songs. More colors were added, from acoustic guitar, hypnotic percussion, smooth jazz groove to sax attack. There’s also songs written in French and Tagalog. A lot of changes were made without betraying their love and passion towards the lovely Brazilian music (with a little flamenco touch by the ‘el mariachi’ Miguel) and still appeared as beautiful as ever. Bossa nova, acoustic, smooth jazz lovers would love this album, also those who don’t care of the genre but love the ear-catchy, melodious tunes or even if you’re looking for an album as the accompaniment of your relaxing hours.
